In general no - government organizations are not eliminated.

Politically, I don't see the budget for Homeland Security going down any time soon.

Think about it
homeland security has one thing on their side ..... FEAR.

You don't need to look far to understand how powerful an ally fear is.

When people are convinced they should be afraid of something - they look for security.
(voila - homeland security has a solution for your problem - thanks to new scanners made by GE)

President O might be able to propose reducing Homeland Security's budget - but they'll run to the dozens of contractors they work with ---- to instill a sense of fear ---- and ensure they're funded. No, it's not a conspiracy - it's a lobby/PAC. And - it is powerful enough to ensure its long-term success.

And tell me how this action eliminates a threat to our government? I'm revealing my ignorance here, but didn't homeland security gain its origins on the heels of terrorist attacks? What am I missing?

And before anyone gets their dander in a fluff, I'm not advocating child pornography be allowed.

Rockdoc Franz, you are addressing the gist of this thread topic. And that will not be misunderstood. We sacrificed freedom for security; a very bad tradeoff. Bush and Cheney had no greater imagination than that. They were supposed to stand for the "conservative" principles of our nation: small government; decentralized government; less government interference; guaranteed personal freedoms. Whenever they were up against the wall they gave in to the big government factions of our government.

By the way, the information flow of all of the government agencies (FBI, CIA, police depts, Justice dept, etc) is one way. Up. It never flows back to the individual agencies who gather the data.

And all governmental agencies are incompetent. The more interaction that a person has with the government, the more that person realizes just how incompetent it is.

Regards,
Major Bean

Since President Bush and Cheney grew the government larger and more intrusive instead of reducing it and being fiscally conservative, you can see how some people have a bit of a hard time believing it when people running as conservatives say they are for smaller government and finances.

Operation Predator, a nationwide ICE initiative to protect children from sexual predators, including those who travel overseas for sex with minors, Internet child pornographers, criminal alien sex offenders, and child sex traffickers. Operation Predator draws on ICE's unique investigative and enforcement authorities to safeguard children. Coordinated nationally and internationally, Operation Predator brings together an array of ICE disciplines and resources to target these child sex abusers.

I am unsure of if the threat is to our government or if our government is a threat to us right now.
