I have been pretty pessimistic about Arab nations ever becoming republican democracies, but Obama's speech in Latin America pointing out how many democracies have risen from the military dictatorships to the south.

Hopefully all these demonstrations in the Middle East will result in democracy for the region. Some positive signs, Egypt recently had the first free elections in over 30 years.

Who cares if Obama plays golf and soccer in Brazil? Have you ever heard of delegation? If anything, he should be focusing on Afghanistan. These coming 18 months are going to be very important to ochestrate the turnover and withdrawl.
