DENVER -- Colorado's unemployment rate ticked up to 9.3 percent in February, even though the state added 3,000 nonfarm jobs.
The Department of Labor and Employment said the increase in jobs wasn't enough to offset an increase in the number of people looking for jobs.
February's jobless rate was 0.02 of a percentage point higher than January's and 0.03 percentage point higher than a year ago.
The unemployment rate is based on a survey of households, while the number of jobs comes from a larger survey of employers and is likely more accurate, the department said.
The biggest job gains were in professional and business services; trade, transportation and utilities; and leisure and hospitality.
The biggest declines were in construction and financial services.
Colorado now has about 2.2 million jobs and about 2.7 million people in the labor force, including both employed and unemployed workers.
The national unemployment rate dropped from 9.0 to 8.9 percent in February.
Soon as the #'s are not directly related to those that either fell off the unemployment benny's or never applied.
In the next few years we will see alot of bad things from our past.
Frankly, I don't see Colorado ever opening soup kitchens--no money to be made. Maybe the churches will be taking up the slack.
It is scary. It's really scary that this state seems to be in denial about the reality of the situation. I believe that the unemployment rate is probably higher than is being reported. After all, this is an at-will employment state and if you are fired for anything an employer calls "cause" the front page of the unemployment website tells you don't bother filing.
What bad things from our past are you referring to Martin?
Actually, there are two that I know of in Denver - found out about one by accident - just happened to be driving by at the right time of day. I was wrong - there's more- one at 1675 larimer Street, one at 5306 Lincoln Street, one at 1130 Park Avenue West, and one at 5825 E 17TH Ave. And now that the weather is warm, Civic Center park is full of homeless - day and night.
But I agree with the rest of it - we live in a literal state of denial. Up here alone there are 5 food banks, with another one opening.
On the new yesterday, one of the business guys said that Detroit has lost a large percentage of its population and one of the places they are going is to Colorado, increasing our unemployment.

Thanks to Obama and others promoting "Green" energy....everyone in Michigan and other parts of the US are migrating to Colorado for jobs. Many illegals from Arizona migrated to Colorado in the past year.
