In 1955, Frank Sinatra recorded the song "Love and Marriage," in which he informed us that the two titular subjects go together like a horse and carriage. By Frank's era, that was true -- humans were on the search for soul mates that would serve as lovers, co-parents and best friends. But for most of human history, marriage wasn’t a very romantic institution. It was more akin to a business deal between men, and the bride in question had very few rights or other options. Love has never been out of the question for our ancestors; they just didn't always believe that such a thing could be found within marital bonds. So how did marriage become associated with love? Let's trace the development of this institution.
Interesting how the timeline reveals how feminism and liberalism has queered marriage.... imagine an arranged marriage where the father give his son to another man for marriage.... I think I just puked!
RT, your queer thing is offensive to me. Kind of sick of it actually. So, I am sure you will continue to use it since that is your purpose it seems, to just make fun of all discussion on the matter. Real discussion anywhere in our future with you?
Just because you feel sick because you can't keep your nose out of others business does not mean the world should abide to your whims. In my view anyway.
Yes, it's so awful that women aren't treated as property anymore. :Loco: :faint:
:Censored :Censored RT :Censored :Whatever:
I love information like this - gives a nice big picture of how people used to think and behave, and shows that what we practice now will be radically different than what our descendants think and do. Well, except for RT's family - they'll live in a compound desperately trying to bring back the good 'ole days where they drag their women by the hair back to the cave!
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
The whole history of some cultures' views and actions when talking about marriage is interesting... A baby daughter in Olde England born of a wealthy family, was sometimes betrothed while still in the cradle. If she or her betrothed survived childhood, she was married before she got "long in the tooth" (usually when her menses began around age 13). If she hadn't had a child within 18 or 24 months of marriage, eyebrows were raised...especially if there were bastard children of her husband's in the local communities.
In some cultures, it was/is the woman who was allowed (and it was expected) to have affairs outside her marriage!
This is very fascinating and at times revolting. One of the reasons Tsarevich Alexei had hemophilia was because the European monarchies were so inter-bred...of course the Egyptian Pharoahs did the same thing...they thought it would strengthen the blood-line if brothers married sisters; mothers married sons; etc.
Just the whole evolution of cultures is interesting...that safety was, at first, the primary reasons for marriage, then it evolved to "strengthen" the family's coffers, in some cases it showed where in the community social structure you were.
And in old Roman times...being homosexual or heterosexual wasn't even part of anyone's vernacular. People had sex...especially powerful people...with whoever they wanted to have sex with...boys, girls, male, female, it didn't matter, it was just considered sex. And it was a way to show the person's power to the other people...they took what they wanted when they wanted it.

I think the history of marriage is fascinating.
You know CG, you posting this marriage timeline was offensive to me. It's pitiful that a dumbass like the one who wrote this piece wants to highlights the perversions of a few people.
It's incredibly stupid for anyone to believe that women have always been treated like property and used for just raising babies and making dinners. It's appalling that individuals like you and SC let stupid writers lower woman into the seepage of feminism/liberalism and destroy the most important aspects of woman's life...to give life and raise life. It's sick! Just plain sickness abounds...

Certainly one of many reasons why the Roman empire collapsed.

The pair of them have been sipping the Koolaid since kindergarten. Their brainwashed thought process is as natural to them as a dog's instinct to lick its ass after a dump and equal in importance.
