EDGEWATER, Colo. -- Edgewater police arrested a suspect Friday night in an attempted kidnapping of an 8-year-old, when the man returned to the grocery store to pick up his cell phone.
Steve Davis, spokesman for Edgewater police, said the abduction attempt happened at 7:40 p.m. Friday inside the King Soopers at 1700 Sheridan Boulevard.
The cousin of the girl told police confronted the suspect when he grabbed the little girl's arm. The suspect ran out of the store and jumped into a white SUV, dropping his cell phone along the way.
Police were called back to the grocery store at 9:44 p.m. when grocery store workers said the man returned to pick up his phone. Police said the suspect identified himself as Abraham Rodriguez-Rodriguez, 37, but officers are trying to determine is that is his true identity.
Rodriguez-Rodriguez was arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnapping.
