That fella on the left needs a haircut... Llamas, Alpacas, whatever. I have been on several back country trips and these animals are wonderful! They willingly carry a lot of weight and they seem to have a great capacity for working with people and letting us know of what they perceive as threats. Then there's the occasional spitting session, camels do it to and it is gross but it wipes off and once the issue that caused the problem has been resolved everything is good again!
I enjoy working with mules and horses and they can carry a lot more than a Llama or Alpaca but when you need to go high on narrow trails with a lot of gear Llamas are the way to go!
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

During Burro Days in Fairplay (this year it'll be 30 & 31 Jul 11), they have Llama Races. And sometimes in the middle of the racecourse, the Llama decides it is done and just lays down. Sometimes, they decide to take a shortcut and unfortunately the person running with them has to go along for the ride. It is a lot of fun to see!
I'm going out on a limb here...I live right behind the library (old courthouse) in Fairplay. I have parking for 2 or 3 (possibly more) vehicles on my property. If anyone wishes to utilize parking closer to the action, you are welcome to park on my property... BEWARE: there are idiots that do not understand that the road they are blocking is a driveway and will block me in and since the field I live next to is used by the vendors' campers, you may have to stay a little longer if my driveway is blocked.

I've done the llama race several times. Not the real race, but the one that starts after that. I had a llama one year that was in training. He always wanted to be with a different group. I had to keep stopping and turning him in a circle so he would calm down. I probably covered 3x's as much ground as anyone else that year.
For two years I've been trying to get to Burro Days and haven't made it yet.
THIS year I will!
I'm sitting here all smug because I got the dog door installed and my dogs will be able to do their thing but be
securely confined while I'm gone.
They're even using it already :woo hoo: I'M READY!
Uhhhhh..... :faint: Burro Days in next weekend
: Embarrassed:
