Help Pets Displaced by Colorado Wildfires

As of today, active wildfires in Colorado have consumed more than 148,000 acres, destroying hundreds of homes and displacing tens of thousands of people and their pets. Because of the urgent need to house these displaced pets, local humane societies like the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, Larimer Humane Society and the Humane Society of Boulder Valley have stepped in to help.

The Humane Society of Boulder Valley and the Dumb Friends League have already sent teams to Colorado Springs to help care for animals at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region that have been displaced by the Waldo Canyon Wildfire evacuations. In addition, we've taken in more than 55 adoptable pets from other shelters in order to create space for pets of displaced families. The PetAid Disaster Relief Fund is also providing some reimbursements and coordination to local shelters involved in relief efforts.

Now, these organizations—and the pets they serve—need your help, too.

To help these organizations continue to provide care for displaced animals, we're asking you to please consider making a financial contribution directly through their websites:

As our friends, neighbors and fellow Coloradans helplessly watch wildfires threaten their homes and businesses, now is the time to come together and show our support. This is also the perfect time to adopt a new pet from your local humane society, helping Front Range shelters work together to find as many homes as possible for adoptable pets.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
