From the Colorado Department of Agriculture via the Jefferson County Horse Council:

**ALERT!** VSV has been CONFIRMED in Jeffco!

As of August 9th, 2014, Colorado has 104 Vesicular Stomatis Virus-positive premises which are all quarantined. The affected counties are Adams, Boulder, Douglas, El Paso, Jefferson,Larimer, and Weld. Note that there are now two VSV-positive premises in Jefferson County. All of the cases in Colorado are equine except for two of them. There is one positive-VSV cow in Weld County and one VSV-positive cow in Boulder County.

This virus can be transmitted by mosquitos and ticks. So even if your herd is isolated from other animals, they could become infected.

Colorado became the second state in the country to confirm vesicular stomatitis (VS) when four horses on two Weld County premises tested positive for the disease.

On July 17, the National Veterinary Services Laboratory reported a positive test on samples submitted from the four Weld County horses. The animals have no history of travel, and have been placed under quarantine.
