Conifer Vet Hospital just called asking to reach out for donors. Marley, a 3 year old yellow lab was hit by a car and the driver never stopped. His rear leg is badly broken. The owners are at the hospital with Marley and have given every penny and credit dollar they have. Dr. Palmini is needing to call in an orthopedic surgeon. They need a minimum of $1500 down. If you, or someone you know that can help please call Conifer Veterinary Hospital and make a donation towards Marley's surgery, 303-670-3959
Thank you!
At the request of Intermountain Humane Society (and with the permission of Marley's parents) we are posting some background information.
Marley is a three-year old yellow lab cared for by a younger couple in Bailey. He sustained serious injury after a hit-and-run automobile encounter yesterday. His parents immediately took him to an emergency & referral center in town. While the referral center offers excellent care, the cost of initial stabilization taxed his parents finances and the cost of surgery was beyond their immediate means.
He was transferred to our practice this morning where we took x-rays showing the extent of his injury. His left femur was completely fractured. Being an active and almost 100LB (very fit) dog, an orthopedic repair of this caliber necessitates the skill of a surgical specialist.
The response of the community in the last few hours has been astounding. Enough money was raised to ensure we could bring the surgeon up to Conifer to operate on Marley tomorrow afternoon. He will stay overnight and be back with his parents on Christmas Eve.
While Marley's injury is a tragedy, the incredible generosity of this community and the quick, caring actions of Intermountain Humane Society and their supporters have ensured Marley and his parent's will have an incredible holiday with tons to be thankful for.
We have received many requests for updates on Marley's progress. We will continue to post information in narrative form on Pinecam. More detailed information and photos (nothing graphic) will be on our Facebook page.
For those not on FB
Marley is getting ready for surgery and I've included a picture of the break. Warning, don't scroll down if pictures of broken bones bother you.

No new updates on FB - I hope all went well. From the Conifer Vet FB page this morning.
posted 8 hrs ago Marley's surgery happens this morning. We have gotten to know him pretty well here over the last 24 hours. He's full of energy even with his leg broken as it is and a happy boy with an indomitable spirit. We know he will do well but every well wish is appreciated!
From Conifer Vet FB page there are a couple of photos I will upload tomorrow
Marley is out of surgery and recovering well. He is still quite groggy and it was a long procedure but he made it through just fine. By tomorrow we imagine he will be trying to pull us to go play out in the snow!
Thank you all again for your support and encouraging words. Every one has been taken to heart.
