JEFFERSON COUNTY —Sean Conway will come to your home and tend your yard, but he is not your average gardener. Actually, he is a farmer.
Conway's Lakewood-based business Micro Farms peddles fresh produce that is grown in small plots in residents' backyards. Property owners do not have to do any of the work, and they get a share of the crop in exchange for allowing him to farm their land.
Conway said he was open to what property owners wanted out of the deal. He talked to them about monetary payment, or hiring him as a consultant so they could farm and harvest their plot themselves, which is something offered by a few local businesses such as Boulder-based Urban Farm Co . All of Conway's clients, however, chose to have him do the work while they get a biweekly share of the harvest.
The rest of the produce goes to sale through the GoFarm CSA in Golden and at the Denver Federal Center Farmers Market in Lakewood each Thursday, and some has gone to Abejas, a restaurant opening soon in Golden with a focus on seasonal food.
