Coming up on October 4th, is the traditional feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. How lovely to have a day devoted to the Patron Saint of Animals. Whether believer or not, it's a lovely reminder of those who have come before us, a testament to those who dedicate themselves and their lives to the voiceless, and perhaps a little inspiration to continue their goods works in their name. That said, let's take a moment to consider compassion towards each other as rescuers, and towards the little ones, the voiceless, who only have us.
One of our local non-denominational churches will be blessing the beasties on Saturday, October 2, the event begins at 10 a.m. and will be an informal, come as your are kind of thing, not a formal church service. They will keep going as long as people arrive with pets (or ashes or photos). They will set up in the "back" parking lot of Chow Down, as there's more room. They will have someone in front to direct people either through the store, or around.
Fr. Patrick Dorn's little congregation at the Church of the Apostles (about 25 on a great day) is so excited to be doing this for our community!
