I always thought I would try this. I haven't yet, but I am subscribed to the Geocaching website.

The link is to the first upcoming event listed. You do have to create an account to see all the details. I get a weekly update. I've just copied the upcoming events (mileage is given for how far away from my zipcode each event is). I've included the recent geocaches within 40 miles of my zipcode (pine), which would include most of Denver. Sorry it's a long list...................

Hey Pacamom!!

My wife and I just recently got into this.. I mean very recently. We have only gone on a few hunts but are on our 14th cache. It really is alot of fun. I was a little skeptical at first but my wife insisted and I have become quite the fan. We are on geocaching.com My wife signed up as Butter Lover Dont ask.. It has to do with a nickname for my son. You may see our sign in on some of the cache's you come across. Have fun. I really think you will enjoy it.

Geo-caches are allowed on NF land, they are not allowed in National Parks. Virtual caches are allowed on NP land. You may have removed a Cache that was known to and allowed by the Forest Service. It's a valid use of the forest, and gets people out and about.

And yes I geocache. There is a pretty active caching community up here. I am Colorado_PopPop on geocaching.com

He’s probably the same guy that drives the speed limit in the fast lane and won’t let anyone pass.

I do not geocache. It's too much like things I do for a living when I go out into the field.

I'm going to weigh in here on the "junk". One person's junk is another's treasure. I suppose it would be prudent, especially after you identified it as a possible geochache, to see if this material was allowed (mind you this is 20/20 hindsight here). If not, then I would think you have every right to keep our national forests clean. Otherwise you are being very ass u me (ing). The good news for me is you brought this matter into the open and allows us to collectively learn more about what is and is not permissible and that some peoples treasures possibly are junk.

"Another's treasure" should be kept on private property and not hidden/forgotten/discarded/neglected in the national forests and public lands. Some of the caches that we have stumbled across were pretty weather worn as if they had been unfound by the gamers and not retrieved by those in charge of the game. The very first cache that my wife and I stumbled onto appeared to have been in the forest for a quite some time. I wish that I could be open minded about scavenger hunts, but that experience has jaded my view/first impression to the point that my opinion most probably cannot be rehabilitated.
