GoodHiker.com is here to help you and the kids in your life get outdoors and have fun hiking — while staying safe and comfortable and minimizing your impact on the environment.
Had a real nice moonlight hike on Mt. Evans on Saturday night (7/24). There is absolutely nobody up there at night although the road stays open 24 hours. The full moon provided plenty of light for me and the dogs and I rarely needed to turn on my headlamp. Started at about 10:00. Got back to the truck at about 1:30 AM and took a brief nap before the first hikers arrived at 3:30 and woke the dogs and me up for the day.
I would love to be up there for a new moon and/or a meteor shower.
How to inspire yourself to hike.Sometimes it can be hard to get outdoors when you want because of busy schedules. After working long hours and getting little rest, one can decide to skip out the hike. So how do you become inspired to just do it.
1. Hang a big picture of mountains in your living room and kitchen.
2. Instead of turning on the TV get your backpack and boots.
3. Keep the backpack and boots visible (in front of the TV)
4. Start collecting maps and guide books for Colorado (and/or the other 49 states).
5. Use pinecones for an air freshener.
6. Have your backpack ready all the time for a full day hike.
7. Play with your GPS more.
8. Listen to your dog(s), they always want to go hiking.
9.Quit buying food you can't fit in a daypack.
10. Quit buying clothes made of cotton.
11. Hike with me one time!
12. Remember that God put those mountains there for a reason.
