BONE appétit!

Did you know that many animals use dropped antlers as a food source? Squirrels, chipmunks, mice, ground hogs, woodchucks, beavers, rabbits, raccoons, opossums, porcupines, coyotes, deer, foxes, and bears may eat the marrow from the shed antlers from deer, elk and moose. For these animals, antlers are an excellent source of calcium, phosphorous, and minerals especially during winter while food is scarce. If you find antlers on your outdoor adventures, please leave them, they are an important food source for wildlife. Check out the antler display at Lookout Mountain Nature Center to learn more! #wildlifewednesday
