May 1-7 is 'National Wildflower Week'

Lady Bird Johnson said, "wildflowers give us a sense of where we are in this great land of ours.”

As the temperatures warm, Staunton State Park has a plethora of beautiful wildflowers which seemingly pop up overnight. However, the first week of May is much too early at our elevation for visitors to see many wildflowers. The three flowers depicted below are the only species blooming right now on the Davis Ponds Trail. Beginning around Memorial Day, the wildflowers really start blooming and Staunton State Park offers many naturalist led wildflower hikes to learn more about the plant life in the park. Check out Staunton's 'Current Programs and Events' link on the website's main page for scheduled events and activities. cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/staunton

Remember, to help preserve their beauty for future generations, never pick wildflowers or plants.
