Don't Cr@p in the Woods--Toilets for BC trailhead!

From the community that brought you the smooth parking lot, the beautiful bike pavilion, and oh yes, those cookies:

Do you like mountain biking? Hiking? Horseback riding?
Keeping human waste out of the national forest?
Not having to run from bears with your pants around your ankles?
Then contribute to this "crappy" cause!

We want to build you a real toilet!

The rest stop at the Buffalo Creek Trailhead parking lot is a staging area for many of the users of the trails in the Pike National Forest. The Buffalo Creek community, population approx 200, provides a safe, comfortable place to park for people enjoying a day in the forest. The new pavilion provides a place to relax, enjoy some snacks, clean some wounds, and rest up before hitting the highway for the drive home. The community provided phone line has been used multiple times to contact the North Fork Volunteer Fire Department to help injured trail users. The provided port-a-potties are cleaned daily by an 82-year-old volunteer and are paid for by the community and by Team Evergreen Cycling! The trailhead lot/rest area enhances the public use of the 85 mile trail system and makes it possible for many people to enjoy the area!

A new concrete vault toilet system will provide a needed sanitary facility that will enhance the use of the rest area and help reduce the waste impact on our forest environment. A more appealing and functional facility will encourage people to visit "the facilities" before going into the forest, thus reducing the amount of human waste left behind, near trails, in the neighboring forest.

We are seeking to install a prefabricated concrete double vault toilet system manufactured by CXT . They will have 1000 gallon vaults, and be handicap accessible.

These vault toilets are of excellent quality, and not inexpensive. Our tiny town, which doesn't even have a stoplight, needs your help! The small Buffalo Creek community has raised over $32,000 so far, but needs to raise even more to afford to purchase and install the toilet.
Groups that have helped so far are: the South Platte Enhancement Board, Team Evergreen Cycling, and two local families who donated over $10,000! We are grateful for these contributions and will be grateful to you, too!

Please contribute to our cause! We're a small community and every little donation will make a big difference!

Residents fundraising for new restrooms at Buffalo Creek trailhead

Buffalo Creek residents are raising money to build permanent restrooms at the Buffalo Creek Trailhead parking lot.

The prefabricated system, manufactured by CXT, will have 1,000-gallon vaults and will be handicap accessible. The restrooms will be waterless, professionally pumped and will have solar lighting.

At the end of the day, the goal of the project is simple: Keep the forests clean and those using the trails safe and healthy.

Fantastic news from the Buffalo Park Improvement Association!

Dear Friends of Buffalo Creek,

As you may know, the Buffalo Park Improvement Association (BPIA) has been fundraising to install concrete vault toilets at the Buffalo Creek Trailhead. We are delighted to announce that at long last, The Toilets Are Coming! The vault toilet, as one complete concrete block, will be arriving on January 17th, on a 78’ truck.

We wanted to let you know for several reasons:
• To thank you for your generous donations and ongoing support, especially to the South Platte Enhancement Board, Jeffco Open Space, and Team Evergreen Cycling for their substantial grants.
• To celebrate reaching our fundraising goal. The project is entirely funded with donations and grants, and not with BPIA membership dues.
• To share the news of this amazing improvement to the Trailhead Lot.
• And finally, to suggest that you not plan to park at the Trailhead Lot on January 17th! It will be pretty busy with the multiple trucks and excavators working away. Additionally, we do not recommend parking along Highway 126.

The toilets themselves will be open for use a few days after the installation takes place. Portapotties will be available until then.

If you would like to contribute to the toilet project, you can do so at gofund.me/efa3e4d4 . All funds will go to supplies and upkeep of the toilets.
