Tomorrow is the next Guided Wildflower Hike, be sure to get to the park a little early to find parking and meet your trail guide!

This weekend, we are happy to share that Marmot Fest is ON! From the Staunton staff and volunteers:

2020 is a “special” year! Our annual Marmot Fest has changed to a visual/virtual meandering hike along beautiful Staunton Ranch Trail from the Meadows parking lot. Learn fun and fanciful facts about our little furry friends...the marmots! Social distances and no touch displays will give all visitors a safe and fun day. Watch marmot videos and dancing marmots, and then...

Head on down the trail to enjoy the Dog vs Marmot escapade and a fun scavenger hunt! We will have a special bag of goodies for the kids, including their very own marmot mask. If you'd like to go fishing, we'll supply all the equipment at Davis Ponds.

In the evening, join us at the amphitheater at 845p for a night sky/moon program - binoculars supplied!

Don’t forget to adopt a marmot plush toy at the visitor center!

Colorado Parks and Wildlife shared an adorable story this past weekend:

A marmot hitched a ride from Winter Park down to Parker Saturday. @ParkerPolice
picked it up from a garage after the individuals discovered it when they got home. Today, we relocated the marmot back to the mountains at Staunton State Park.

Watch more:

Ironically enough, it was actually Marmot Fest at Staunton State Park this weekend.

Every year, a half-dozen or more marmots accidentally hitch-hike from the high country down to the Front Range. Marmots like the ambient heat of the engine, or at times some of the wire coatings are now made from soy-based insulation and that smells like food when heated.

Tomorrow, Saturday July 25 starting at 7:00pm at the Marmot Amphitheater, it's "Coyote Awakenings!"

This hour long program presented by interpretive naturalist/long time storyteller Swiftdeer-Paige celebrates the return of the coyote to our area. Play a lively audience participatory game to learn how coyotes survive in the modern world, listen to a whimsical Okanagan story about how the spirit chief named coyotes and other animals, engage in the entire coyote friendly version to Home On The Range accompanied by harmonica, and then be enthralled to hear an amazing true story of how Swiftdeer was saved by a coyote and her pup in the rugged high desert wilderness of north central New Mexico.
