Evergreen Trout Unlimited Chapter August 2013 Meeting

Monthly program meetings are held at Beau Jo's restaurant in Evergreen on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. Some programs fill the presentation rooms so get there early to reserve your spot. Enjoy dinner at 6:30. We go over some chapter business at 7:00 and then start the presentation soon after (7:15). You do not need to be a memeber to attend these presentations. The chapter is very welcoming and does a lot for our local stream. First time members recieve a discounted membership fee.

This notes the free fishing days at Buchanan Rec Centers for chapter members as well as the dates for future programs, meetings and volunteer projects. My favorites are teaching the kids to fish at Camp Comfort at the end of June and July and the 4th of July fishing clinic for kids at Evergreen Lake.

"Current Health of Bear Creek Watershed“
presented by: Chris Schauder, Evergreen Metro District


Chris is the New Service and Environmental Manager for the Evergreen Metropolitan District. He is also Co‐Chairman of the Bear Creek Watershed Association (BCWA) Board of Directors. He is a current member of Evergreen Trout Unlimited and considers Bear Creek and the South Platte his home waters along with many high mountain lakes in the area.
A generally continuous collection of water quality data began in 1990 for the Bear Creek Watershed and includes specific chemical, physical and biological parameters. Since 2002, BCWA has annually increased the scope of the sampling and monitoring program.
Chris will be our featured speaker for Evergreen Trout Unlimited on Wednesday, May 18 @ Beau Jo’s in Evergreen, CO. As always, dinner is at 6:30pm and the program will start at approximately 7pm.
Chris will discuss the current health of the watershed, water quality, pollution, responsible land use and solutions to help in preserving our Chapter’s home waters. After the presentation, the group can discuss areas of concern and possible projects for improving Bear Creek.

Free Fishing Night @ Buchanan Ponds
If you would like to join the chapter, this is the best opportunity to meet some of the members.

Please, join us for our Free Fishing Night @ Buchanan Park Recreation Center on Wednesday, June 15th. We'll be gathering on the patio beside the lower lake around 6:30pm for a meet and mingle. Then, we can all fish until just about dark! ETU is providing sandwiches, refreshments and side dishes. All you need to bring is your fishing gear and bubbly personality! See ya' there!

The Evergreen chapter is having its annual party this wednesday night at the Buchanan Rec Center in Evergreen. We will be cooking out and fishing the Buchanan Rec Center ponds.

PAT DORSEY "Fly Fishing Colorado's Tailwaters"

Pat is Guide Director and partner in the Blue Quill Angler fly shop. A native of Colorado, Pat has been guiding for over 20 years and spends about two hundred days a year on the water. Pat is also a renowned author with three marvelously illustrated books under his belt. These books are A Fly Fishers Guide to the South Platte River, Fly Fishing Tailwaters, and Tying and Fishing Tailwater Flies. Pat’s presentations include great digital photography and are well attended so come early to secure a seat.

CAMERON CIPPONERI: "Fly Fishing the Roaring Fork Valley"

Cameron Cipponeri will deliver a slide show at our February 15 chapter meeting at Beau Jo’s Pizzeria in downtown Evergreen at 7 PM. Cameron began guiding for steelhead, trout, and smallmouth bass 15 years ago in northern Michigan. He came to Colorado seven years ago and started working at Elk Trout Lodge. Subsequently, Cameron found a home as a guide at Roaring Fork Anglers. The Roaring Fork Valley from Aspen to Glenwood Springs includes three Gold Medal Rivers: the Roaring Fork River, the Frying Pan River, and the Colorado River. The Roaring Fork is a true freestone river all the way from its headwaters on Independence Pass to its terminus at the Colorado River. The Fork parallels Highway 82 and flows through much private land below Basalt, but there are public access points, and the river is a good float trip. The Frying Pan has its headwaters in the Hunter-Frying Pan Wilderness and flows unobstructed into Ruedi Reservoir. Above the reservoir, the river has characteristics of a small, high gradient mountain stream. Below Ruedi, the Frying Pan is a tailwater where trout gorge themselves on Mysis shrimp, pale morning duns, green drakes, caddis, midges, and other aquatic life. It is easily waded in the summer and fall. The Colorado in the Roaring Fork Valley is big, largely unwadable water that contains some truly big fish. Come and learn more.
