Deer hunting not only adorns your wall with giant buck heads but also provides you with fond memories. However, this fun outdoor activity also entails proper planning. Take a look at these 5 deer hunting related safety precautions that you should adhere to avoid tragic accidents.

1. Just before the start of the hunting season, make sure to closely inspect all your equipment including guns, bows, safety belts and tree stands. This will ensure that the deer hunting related gears are in good workable condition and if you encounter any problem, get them fixed before time. While hunting press the trigger of your gun only when you are sure that your target is a deer.

2. During hunting make sure to wear bright orange hunting gear along with a cap. This way you will be easily visible from long distance and not be mistaken for a deer. Also don't forget to buy blaze orange collars and clothes for your pets. Hanging bells on your dog's collar is another way to keep them safe.

3. Prior to taking to the woods make sure to checkout the weather forecast. Also inform your family and friends about your hunting location, the time you intend to leave and the expected time of return. This way you can easily be traced if required. Make sure you are not hunting around dawn or dusk as visibility during these times is quite low. Additionally, always remember to carry a light with you.

4. Always bear in mind to use only your own tree stand and ascertain that the stand is fully installed or safely built before climbing. Furthermore, it is important to use good safety harness when climbing on a tree stand to avoid a tragic fall. While climbing on a tree stand also make sure that your gun is not loaded.

5. Try to never hunt alone. It is good to take two people with you for safety. During deer hunting season there will be several hunters out in the woods looking for the biggest bucks. Therefore while hunting be attentive and keep your eyes and ear open for other hunters.
