Those were awesome!

Quint on AintItCool.com does a Behind The Scenes pic almost every day, usually with some neat commentary.

Alfred Hitchcock’s THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY is one of those movies that grows on you after watching it. My first impression was that it was fun, but lesser Hitchcock, but as time has gone by I’ve found myself thinking more and more about it.

Today’s pic is from a quiet scene and it’s a great example of the chaos of a film set. Here’s a shot of two people at a table and to see how crowded it is with the crew and equipment jammed in is a great glimpse at the process.

And what the hell is up with that massive camera? I have to imagine it’s a sound-proofing thing, but still. That thing’s a tank!

How badass was Errol Flynn? Books upon books upon books have been written about his exploits onscreen and off that would make Richard Harris cringe, Russell Crowe sick with envy and Colin Farrell vomit all over himself with disgust!

And yet that man could wear a pair of tights like nobody’s business. He could sweet talk any lady, young or old, and be a charming bastard the whole while. Case in point his historic portrayal of Robin Hood, one of the most charismatic performances ever captured on film. When Flynn duels with Basil Rathbone magic was caught. In a lot of ways I think Rob Reiner was able to capture some of that same lighthearted glee in The Princess Bride.

Anyway, today’s pic is a script meeting on the set of The Adventures of Robin Hood. Most of the stars are present and it’s yet another behind the scenes shot that makes me wish I could have been a fly on the wall, listening in on the conversation.

It’s about time Citizen Kane rears its head around these parts. Orson Welles has shown up from time to time, but not his debut film which is widely considered the best film ever made.

I don’t go quite that far, but I love the movie. I can point to movies I enjoy more, that touch me more, that impress me more, but what’s amazing about watching Kane now is seeing the language of film being set. There were spectacles before Kane, but Welles really broke the mold, taking filmmaking from a more traditional stage-bound theatricality to an open fluidity that we now permanently associate with filmed storytelling.

Even if there was nothing else to like in that movie the technical achievement would be enough to justify the praise, but there’s more to the movie. Kane is a great character that’ll have you laughing one minute and crying the next and Welles’ troupe (including my favorite, Joseph Cotton) are all a pleasure to watch.

So, enjoy the photo! Yes, that’s Welles on the right directing with a broken ankle.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Not only is she iconic, but so is Sean Connery and the movie itself, which kicked off one of the strongest franchises in all of cinema history. Unlike any other franchise, Bond has reinvented itself for each generation in an admirable way.

But it all started with Dr. No, which created an endearing screen icon not just in James Bond as a character, but in Sean Connery at his swaggering best. A lot of credit has to go to director Terence Young, who directed, arguably, the three best Bonds: Dr. No, From Russia With Love (my favorite) and Thunderball.

Mr. Young appears in today’s photo with Ms. Andress’ bikini and Mr. Connery!

After yesterday’s Ursula Andress Dr. No bikini shot I figured it was time to finally go for another iconic cinematic bikini as worn by Carrie Fisher and her stunt double Tracy Eddon. Maybe now I’ll stop getting this image sent in by eager readers!

I’ve got two shots for you, the first more well known one and then a follow-up a split second later with Fisher and her stunt double catching the photographer!
