The Avengers - Now Open & Breaking Box Office Records!!!

Well, I didn't make it to the midnight opening Friday night, but dragged hubby Saturday night instead (who started in the mind frame of asking, "Is this one going to be as bad as the last one? - he meant Thor, which rocked!).

It started slower than expected the first 20 minutes or so, but once it got going, oh man! Joss Whedon has cemented his place among the movie gods, writing and directing what is now the biggest box-office opening movie ever - over $200 million domestically, over $400 million additionally worldwide. He successful gave each character equal treatment, screen time, and weight. The action pace was perfect, the special effects awesome, the dialog hilarious, and only the tiniest bit of one romance story included that thankfully was brief. And OhMiGod what The Hulk does to Loki - AWESOME!!!!! and the fight between Thor and IronMan, YES! Stark and Banner debating - a scientist's and geek's fantasy. Black Widow's "interrogations" - no one plays their cards better. The fight scene at the end - PERFECT!

And the harshest critics, the fanboys...are happy. And they want more - if the studios listen, and play along, we could be happy for years to come! :woo hoo:
(and they better leave Whedon in place!)

Harry pounds out... Harry types himself raw over THE AVENGERS!!!

At this point – Disney & Marvel should begin building to an all brand mega film that would cross studios – involve SPIDER-MAN, X-MEN, FANTASTIC FOUR, AVENGERS, DOCTOR STRANGE, NEW MUTANTS, INHUMANS, etc… Marvel’s Universe is so rich, but the more interaction they build in, the more audiences will fall in love with the whole of the brand. Get these characters in some of those other films. Seed the future and do it with not just post-film cameos, but meaningful parts of the movies.

THE AVENGERS creates an instant hunger for them to just start doing everything right. Other studios should be banging on Marvel’s door with their characters and working to let Marvel has as much control as necessary, because they would see their profits soar.

Someone on Twitter asked me to rate the film on a 10 point scale. To me, it’s about 9.975. They nailed their heroes perfect.

And by the end of the movie, hubby's take was..."That was really good! 2.5 hours didn't feel like 2.5 hours at all." Not bad for a guy who went into it expecting it to suck and was only humoring his wife on a night out (he was lobbying for going to American Reunion instead).

Only recommendation: don't bother with the 3D - we only picked that for the convenience of the starting time, and it wasn't worth the extra price. If I can make it back, I'll go see it on IMAX in HD instead.

Anyone else seen it? Thoughts? Favorite moments?

Loved that movie! Actually am thinking about seeing it again in the theaters. Loved the story, the look, scripting was awesome.

We all loved it. They did a fabulous job putting together all the character's ego's, and making it work flawlessly.

Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!

Disney's superhero sensation "The Avengers" remained strong at No. 3 with $20.3 million, lifting its domestic total to $552.7 million. "The Avengers" climbed past "The Dark Knight" at $533.3 million to become No. 3 all-time on the domestic revenue chart, behind "Avatar" at $760.5 million and "Titanic" at $658.5 million.

Adding $12.4 million overseas, "The Avengers" pushed its international haul to $802.5 million and its worldwide earnings to $1.36 billion. That raised it past last year's "Harry Potter" finale at $1.33 billion to put "The Avengers" at No. 3 in all-time revenue worldwide, also behind only "Avatar" ($2.8 billion) and "Titanic" ($2.2 billion).
