Carrie Underwood was under fire by critics but viewers seemed to really enjoy the performance as demonstrated by numerous tweets. It received the highest rating as the most watched program since 2004.
I for one watched from beginning to end and was pleased with the performance.
Carrie can sing. There is no doubt about that but she can't act.
I actually liked the Mother Superior's voice. Almost better than Carries only because it was a bit more emotional.
Whoever played Capt Von Trapp could have used some lessons in movement of the human body.
I really like the scene changes.
Glad I recorded it, so I could skip the songs I don't like and the 10 minute commercial breaks.
Bottom line for me is did I enjoy the show, yes I did. I saw the original on Broadway with Mary Martin (yeah I'm that old) this performance was closer to that experience than it was to the movie with Julie Andrews. For those who tried to compare it to the movie, perhaps they were disappointed, live theatre is a totally different experience. Kudos to NBC, the actors and the crew for an enjoyable evening. I will take live theatre over a movie any day.
