Meet the ‘Smokejumpers’. These brave ATV’s portray the highly experienced and skilled real-life men and women smokejumpers who parachute out of planes to fight wildfires often in remote areas. Disney spent some time with the U.S. Forest Service smokejumpers at the Redding Smokejumper Base in Redding, California, to learn about the world of aerial wildland firefighting. The footage will be featured in a Disney Channel special on the making of the movie and will also be included as behind-the-scenes extras on the DVD.
The Forest Service partnered with Disney, the Ad Council, and the National Association of State Foresters to launch a series of wildfire prevention public service advertisements featuring scenes and characters from the movie.
PLANES: Fire & Rescue lands in theatres Friday, July 18.
