Read more on how he influenced the development of the character on Dukes of Hazzard - what a great guy.James Best, the prolific character actor whose cornpone Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane bedeviled Bo and Luke Duke for seven seasons of The Dukes of Hazzard, has died. He was 88.
Best died of complications from pneumonia following a brief illness, The Charlotte Observer reported Tuesday, citing longtime friend and Hollywood colleague Steve Latshaw.
The Kentucky-born actor was in hundreds of episodes of TV and dozens of movies, including The Caine Mutiny, but forged a television career that spanned several decades and popular shows including The Andy Griffith Show.
