I enjoyed the film much more than I thought I would. After the Earth and other off planet colonies are attacked by electrical charges coming from Neptune. Brad Pitt's father disappeared there on a deep space probe decades ago. NASA thinking he is still alive sends his son to Mars to try to communicate with his father to end these electrical attacks.
You do have to turn your brain off for some of the science, especially at the end of the movie, but it was so encouraging to see an Earth with space tourism and colonies on the Moon, Mars, and even in the asteroid belt.
