The film is about the first African-American US Navy pilot who served in Korea and the demons he had to face both internal and external as the armed forces were bring desegregated. Only a few years earlier, the only position for Blacks on navy ships were as cooks. And it was a great moment in the film when you see how the African-American sailors on the aircraft carrier want to see him succeed and show that they can do it all, from combat to being a hot shot fighter pilot.
