Probably one of the most dynamic TV producers ever. A lifetime liberal and very political, he introduced iconic characters like Archie Bunker, Maude, and George Jefferson.
Definitely remade 1970's television and maybe even society, helping to make it more progressive.
Some think it was propaganda, but I once read an interview with Sally Struthers where she complained that Mailer tried to make Archie a horrible man, but conservatives would still cheer him on.
