A week or two ago, we learned that TOP GUN sequel offers had been extended to Jerry Bruckheimer and Tony Scott. At the time this was revealed, word was that Tom Cruise had agreed to appear in the picture in a reduced capacity/extended cameo/or whatever - as long as his "Maverick" character was utilized in a way that wasn't too obvious.
Now, sequel scripter Christopher McQuarrie (VALKYRIE, THE USUAL SUSPECTS) has contacted Vulture to assert that this is not the case, pointedly indicating: "There is no Top Gun 2 in which Maverick is not the starring role."
Please, Lord, no.
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
