The Elk Creek Fire Protection District will be able to purchase some high-end CPR training tools, as well as body armor for its first responders, thanks to two major grants the department recently was awarded.
Announced at the district’s monthly fire board meeting Aug. 11, the first grant was awarded through the Denver Area Urban Security Initiative and amounts to hundreds of dollars that will go toward the purchase of body armor — eight sets of plate carriers and helmets — for the district’s medic unit, first-out fire engine and command cars.
