Fire district to finalize bond-issue, tax-hike amounts by month’s end

Voters will know by the end of the month the exact amount of the proposed bond issue and tax increase for the Evergreen Fire Protection District that will appear on the November ballot.

At the district’s monthly board meeting last week, board members said they would finalize the amounts, as well as the language of those resolutions, at a special meeting Aug. 28.

The fire district has spent the last few months gauging public opinion on a multimillion-dollar bond issue and a proposed property-tax boost of 3.5 mills.

The tax increase would ultimately address deficits in emergency medical service operations, while the bond issue would help pay for replacing Fire Station 1, which needs to be rebuilt to accommodate plans to widen Highway 73, as well as for renovations.
