Five months after a high-profile homicide at an apartment complex in Idaho Springs, a suspect is in custody and faces a second-degree murder charge.

Idaho Springs resident Colton Davison, 22, was arrested after an indictment was released Wednesday by a Summit County grand jury in last spring’s slaying of 44-year-old Eric Spencer.

Spencer, who was shot in the head April 10 at the Aspen Leaf Apartments, died from a massive brain injury the next day at a Lakewood hospital.

Davison, who first was arrested shortly after the shooting but was quickly released without being charged, now faces a charge of second-degree murder, among other counts, a felony that carries a possible sentence of 48 years in prison.
