A Conifer author was awarded first place in the nonfiction category of the 2016 Kindle eBook Awards.
Kathryn Brettell’s “The Olive Picker” is a memoir about surviving domestic violence and abuse. The book’s opening chapter is about Brettell’s life-changing experience on Oct. 8, 2008, when her then-husband attacked her and she fought him off.
The rest of the book deals with the different types of abuse Brettell experienced throughout her life and the “common threads” among them.
“It was a way of answering the question, ‘Why did I stay with him?’” she said of the book.
