Jeffco commissioners sign off on revamped fire plan

Earlier this month, the Jeffco Board of County Commissioners signed off on an abbreviated version of the 2017 Annual Fire Operating Plan that mirrors similar documents in all of Colorado’s 64 counties.

The plan implements standard operating procedures and defines responsibilities of partner agencies for fighting wildfires in Jeffco. Four agencies signed off on the document, including the Jeffco commissioners, the Jeffco Sheriff’s Office, the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control and the U.S. Forest Service, as well as various fire departments and districts.

The plan must be approved by May 1 of each year to ensure the county can participate in the state’s Emergency Fire Fund. Established in 1967, the Emergency Fire Fund provides counties with additional resources to fight large-scale wildfires. Participation is voluntary, and 43 counties opt to pay into the fund.
