The Platte Canyon school board formally approved the school district’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2017-18 after hearing community feedback during two budget hearings — one on June 12 and a previous hearing on May 15.
The revised $13.9 million budget accommodates a 3 percent salary increase for all classified staff, increasing the base annual salary for licensed staff to $34,500, compliance with changes to the state’s minimum wage and a $28,000 required increase in contributions to the Public Employees Retirement Association. Additionally, the budget also maintains capital funding for facilities repairs at $250,000 and maintains $1.3 million in the district’s reserve funding.
While the revised budget addressed some concerns brought up at the May 15 budget hearing by advocacy group Parents and Citizens (PACE) — such as financial inaccuracies in the report — most of the revisions reflect updated state funding data that wasn’t available last month.
