DENVER — For many, Fourth of July is a day for spending time with family, honoring those who fought for the United States’ independence and celebrating being an American. For about 100 people, Independence Day this year was a day for celebrating a president who they feel has not only given them a voice, but is also leading the country in the right direction.
Gathering at the state Capitol on Tuesday morning, people came from all corners of Colorado to show their support for President Donald J. Trump, and hear more than a dozen local leaders speak about his ideas and where they believe he’s taking the country.
Several speakers were more forceful in their remarks about the media, calling journalists “deplorables,” phony and purveyors of fake news.
Tuesday’s rally was one of three that took place in downtown Denver over the long July 4 holiday. Demonstrators marched in favor of impeaching Trump on Sunday, and hundreds of others demanded greater transparency about Trump’s relationship with Russia in the March for Truth rally at Denver’s Commons Park on Monday.
