Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District is already prepping for the new year with talks of an election and added personnel.

At a September strategic planning meeting, the board discussed the possibility of adding a new part-time emergency medical services staff member due to an increase in call volume and a decline in volunteerism. The part-time employee would join the full-time EMS chief, who was added to the Inter-Canyon team in January 2016.

The terms of Inter-Canyon board members Leslie Caimi, Karl Firor and Kerry Prielipp will be up in May, so the board also discussed the upcoming election. Whether current board members will run again and whether community members will challenge them remains to be seen.

The board also is exploring whether it will pursue a mill levy increase in next year’s election. The additional funds would help the district add more paid personnel and prepare for the future.
