The Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District may try for a mill levy increase in the 2018 election, but first, the department must formulate a plan to gauge taxpayers’ receptiveness.
According to Chief Skip Shirlaw, before moving forward with an election, the fire district must determine: What does our district want? What do they know about us? What do they expect from us?
With Turn Corps’ assistance, the department hopes to answer just that, and a district-wide survey is a huge piece of the planning puzzle.
“I think a survey is critical,” said Inter-Canyon spokesman Dan Hatlestad. “(And that it is) performed by an outside agency is also critical because that allows us to demonstrate that we are obtaining this information from an independent source. No one can say that we influenced the information for the survey.”
