Jeffco to modify major roadway plan, including Conifer’s Main Street

Jeffco staff is looking to realign a possible addition to Conifer’s Main Street, which is classified as a major thoroughfare by the county.

The section of the road doesn’t exist yet and would likely have to be put in by a developer if the area continues growing, explained Steve Durian, Jeffco director of transportation and engineering.

As part of Jeffco’s Major Thoroughfare Plan update, the county is re-evaluating whether several county roads should be major thoroughfares, Durian explained during a Nov. 7 staff briefing to the county commissioners.

Among them is the outlined section that Durian described as a third-of-a-mile long between the existing terminus of Main Street at Conifer Town Center to Pleasant Park Road. The main street section is considered a major thoroughfare already, but Durian said the county is considering realigning it.

Several groups in the Conifer area have been notified of the proposed realignment, Durian said, and the county’s updated Major Thoroughfare Plan will be discussed at the Planning Commission meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 in the Jeffco building’s Hearing Room One.
