There were the Boy Scouts riding along in a giant cardboard television and a dance troupe bopping along in red-and-green knee-high socks, and there was the Conifer Jazzercise crew in their elf costumes and the Elk Creek Fire department bringing up the back — but nothing about Conifer’s annual Christmas parade last Saturday quite measured up to the little green aliens peppering the procession with at least one spaceship in tow.
Keeping in line with the parade’s past-and-future theme, RE/MAX Alliance Conifer’s float featured a giant, balloon spaceship and more than a dozen people dressed as American pioneers, save for the inflatable green and white alien toys wrapped around their arms and heads.
Beyond the alien invasion — which included other floats steered by aluminum foil-wrapped spaceman and other futuristic beings — there were stand-ins for Santa Claus and his elves, “investigators” in white hazmat suits sitting atop horses aptly named Naughty and Nice, and plenty of candy canes and Santa hats to go around.
Even sunshine and unseasonably warm temperatures peaking in the low-to-mid-60s couldn’t deter Saturday’s crowd from getting in the holiday spirit.
