Luke Schultz, 24, and Ellie Hislop, 15, a sophomore at Conifer High School, were recognized at the Sheriff’s annual award ceremony on March 1.

The award honored Hislop and Schultz for stopping the teen from jumping off a bridge along Evergreen Parkway last August, as the two tried to talk him down before Schultz pulled him off the railing and Hislop helped hold him down.

Sheriff Jeff Shrader described that the Citizen Citation of Merit recognizes those who’ve gone above and beyond their civic duty, saying it was even more significant in Schultz’s and Hislop’s case as they are young people.
