Colorado Parks and Wildlife is investigating an incident of possible poaching after a large female black bear was found dead in Idledale last week.

The bear, which had been trapped and relocated as a yearling bear in 2015, was found shot and killed at the intersection of South Grapevine Road and Sawmill Gulch Road in Idledale on the evening of June 20.

According to a flyer distributed to the community by CPW, the black bear had reared cubs since her release in 2015 and hadn't been involved in any reports of conflict in Idledale.

Anyone with information is asked to call CPW’s Northeast Regional Office at 303-291-7227, Office Joe Nicholson at 303-906-4364 or the Operation Game Thief hotline at 877-265-6648.
