Just plain ducky: Crowd comes out in droves for the annual Dam Ducky Derby

It’s the coolest five seconds each year in Evergreen.

That’s the time it takes for nearly 5,000 plastic ducks to drop from a bucket high atop a fire engine into the water below the Evergreen dam to start the Dam Ducky Derby.

The ninth annual derby, organized by the Evergreen Downtown Business Association, draws around 3,500 people to the carnival and duck drop. Several bystanders said the derby was the perfect way to begin the end of summer before school starts in less than two weeks.

The event is a fundraiser for EDBA, which sponsors events throughout the year including the Holiday Walk in December.
