HAPPENING NOW: @efr_co fire board meeting. Board is expected to decide tonight whether to put questions on the November ballot, among other things. #efpd #cogov
Jim King has been announced as EFR's new fire marshall, replacing Frank Dearborn who stepped down earlier this year. He hails from Lawrence, KS and starts 1 Oct. 2018.
Board is getting into discussions about placing a property tax increase question on the Nov. ballot. EFR is one of dozens of fire districts and other special districts that are placing bond or mill levy override questions on the ballot.
Weege says he'd like to go the route of "de-Gallagher-izing," insofar as asking voters to allow the EFPD to adjust the district's mill levy on a year to year basis to offset losses associated with the Gallagher Amendment.
Board is moving forward with the idea and will be developing a resolution. Board will hold a special board meeting to approve the resolution and ballot language before 7 Sept. 2018.
Special meeting will likely occur prior to the end of August. The Courier will publicize the time/date of that meeting once a date is finalized.
Keep in mind, this is just a quick and dirty version of what will be on the ballot. I'll have more information and more details about this in next week's issue of the @CanyonCourier.
POSSIBLE LAND PURCHASE: EFPD is exploring purchase of old Anderson's Deli location in Evergreen in order to address space concerns w/ Station 1. Weege says if they were to purchase the location for a new Station 1, it would provide good opportunities for expansion.
Board will discuss this in detail tonight during executive session. No final decision is being made tonight.
