The Jefferson County Republican Party has joined an increasing number of people and groups employing Nazi references and/or anti-Semitic rhetoric to attack politicians and policies they dislike — this time targeting U.S. Rep. Jared Polis, the Democratic nominee for Colorado governor.
In an Aug. 1 Facebook post, the political organization referred to Polis as a “brown shirt,” a colloquial term for members of the Nazi Party’s original paramilitary, while linking to an article entitled, “Dem Congressman Has Doubled His Wealth While In Congress.”
The comments, which were posted at 2:23 p.m. and later removed, read: “Jared Polis has a new club ‘How to Be A Brown Shirt for Fun & Profit’” with a link to the article, which ran in The Washington Free Beacon, a conservative news website based in Washington, D.C.
Polis, who is Jewish, is one of the wealthiest members of Congress with an estimated net worth of $400 million.
