The Platte Canyon Fire Protection District is joining a number of other fire districts in placing a mill levy question on the November ballot in hopes of offsetting projected revenue losses associated with the Gallagher Amendment.
Formally approved by the Platte Canyon fire board on Aug. 14, the ballot question seeks permission from voters to allow the district to annually adjust its mill levy “so that in future years the district’s revenue is not reduced from refunds, abatements and changes in the ratio of valuation for assessment.”
According to Joe Burgett, assistant fire chief for Platte Canyon, the district’s mill levy question is a “no-dollar ask,” insofar as the district isn’t seeking to increase its property tax revenue but rather maintain it.
Platte Canyon is one of dozens of fire districts across the state, including Evergreen, Indian Hills and Inter-Canyon, placing mill levy questions on the November ballot in hopes of finding a solution to the Gallagher Amendment.
