An Evergreen woman has been sentenced to at least 10 years’ probation after she pleaded guilty to assaulting her husband during a July 5 incident when she shot him.
Julie Bird, 59, was arrested on July 5 after deputies found her husband with a gunshot wound to his back. He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Bird admitted during her sentencing Thursday that she was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, saying she regretted her actions.
Bird told the judge that she has been on a journey of self-discovery, having seen four medical experts in various fields since the incident. Because of her recent diagnosis of alcohol-induced psychosis, Bird told the judge she was committed to never drinking alcohol again.
Bird added that she was thankful to her husband for his support throughout the process, and she now has a support system in place to help her address these newfound issues.
