Friends of Evergreen Dog Park propose Elk Meadow reopening

Although it has been more than a year since the county closed Elk Meadow Dog Off-Leash Area, Friends of Evergreen Dog Park and Jefferson County Open Space have yet to settle on a solution for a new park.

In light of this, the nonprofit organization came before the Jeffco commissioners on Oct. 9 with a plan to reopen the dog park in its old location at Elk Meadow. During public comment, various members of the Evergreen-based group proposed changes that they believe would help mitigate some of the key issues surrounding the off-leash area’s closure.

The suggested changes include a modified trail system, an ultraviolet water treatment facility, additional parking and operational improvements.
