Votes are still being counted in Jefferson County, and as of noon Friday, the Evergreen Park & Recreation District was 241 votes away from getting a proposed mill-levy increaseand 324 votes away from getting a bond measure passed.

So far, “it’s obviously disappointing, but that’s how democracy works,” EPRD Executive Director Ellen O’Connor said. “This community has had their voice through the vote. There are certainly some difficult decisions that will need to be made over the next several years” if the bond and mill-levy questions do not pass.

Next story:
Jeffco voters seemed to have mixed feelings about a pair of ballot issues put forth by Jeffco Public Schools this year.

Despite a close race on both fronts, unofficial results indicate that voters approved a $33 million mill levy override – ballot initiative 5A – but rejected a $567 bond, also called ballot initiative 5B.

A statewide school funding initiative known as Amendment 73 was rejected by Colorado voters with Jeffco voting similarly.

Unofficial results show Lesley Dahlkemper defeating Tina Francone in the race for the sole available seat on the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners.

Dahlkemper, a Democrat, will represent District 3, which covers the southern part of Jefferson County, including Littleton, Ken Caryl, Morrison, Conifer and part of Evergreen. She will replace Francone, a Littleton resident and Republican who was appointed to the seat earlier this year by a GOP vacancy committee after Commissioner Don Rosier stepped down.
