Wanda Schneider doesn’t let the grass grow under her feet.

The die-hard Denver Broncos fan is devoted to her former students, the Mountain Genealogists Society, family, friends and more. As an example, she sent 400 handmade Christmas cards.

Schneider has lived in Evergreen 56 years and taught at Parmalee, Kittredge, Ralston, Bergen and Elk Creek elementary schools during her three-decade career, with the majority of her time at Bergen. She retired in 1993.

Then, a couple years ago, she realized she had birthdates for many of her former students along with information about their parents, so she went on a campaign to find as many of her former students as she could.

She found 200 of them and sent them handmade birthday cards, and about 120 responded, so she now corresponds with them. She loves those kids, even though some of them are now as old as 55.
