Five years after a horrific accident, Kai Bianco is thriving as a kindergartner

Kai Bianco is a typical 5-year-old: an outgoing, talkative, imaginative, happy kindergartner at Wilmot Elementary School who his teacher calls an ambassador for the class.

Kai still favors his right side, but his speech and movements have improved immensely — so much so that his parents, Shelby Foley and Brandon Bianco — decided to have him attend Wilmot this year.

“The kids treat him like he’s a normal guy,” Manley said. “We love him.”

A difficult day
Nearly five years ago, Foley was cleaning in the living room of the couple’s Evergreen home and turned around to find Kai pinned to the couch by Simon, a 5-year-old, 70-pound American bulldog who had been the family pet for four years. Simon’s jaws were around Kai’s head.
